The building is huge and houses a very beautiful permanent collection where you will see, among other things, the very moving tombstones of Richard the Lionheart and his mother Eleanor of Aquitaine. Eleanor, this incredible woman, who uniquely was both Queen of France then Queen of England and in so doing is at the origin of the famous hundred years war between the two kingdoms. By marrying the King of England she offered with her a good part of the kingdom of France, which caused the famous war. The royal abbey of Fontevraud is also a museum of modern art, a very beautiful hotel, two restaurants, including a gastronomic one, temporary exhibitions, as well as conferences and seminars.
