The creation of the parish of Saint-Aubin is decided in 1843 and a competition is launched by the City for the construction of the church. This begins in 1847, according to the plans of Auguste Delort. After the construction of a first underground church, known as the "low church", and the crypts, the work continues depending on financial resources for almost 90 years. In 1929, the building is almost finished. However, the vaults of the nave and the bell tower were never built. Built on an elongated plan without a prominent transept, this church is accessible by a monumental raised porch and ends with an axial chapel topped with a dome. The eclectic style of this construction borrows from Romanesque, Gothic, and Byzantine styles.

The Canal du Midi, formerly Canal Royal, is a 17th-century technical feat designed by Pierre-Paul Riquet to connect the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. Today, it is above all a place for relaxation and discovery, where heritage, nature, and conviviality blend together.

A must-see this summer when it's pedestrian and bicycle friendly. Much less attractive when there are cars.

Pretty little chapel on high ground. Saint Vincent de Paul celebrated one of his first masses there.

At the side of the road, we can see Salvagnac in the distance, a pretty little village perched on top of a hill!

The German-language television series "Treasures of the World - Heritage of Humanity" uses short film clips to honor special sites from all eras and continents that have one thing in common: they have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. One of the episodes introduces the CANAL DU MIDI: "...the Romans already dreamed of a waterway between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Powerful people and doers from Charlemagne to Francis the First failed to realize this idea, even Leonardo da Vinci tinkered with it in vain. It was not built until the end of the 17th century. The Canal du Midi is a technical masterpiece by one person, one obsessed with the idea, by Pierre Paul Riquet. ..."
