The present Apensen church celebrated its centenary in March 2010. It stands on the foundations of numerous older chapels and churches. The first one is believed to have been built here around the year 800. The first documented mention of a church dates back to 1329. This proves that the church has held a firm and very central position in Apensen for many centuries. Today, the parish includes many people from 14 villages. With 3,700 inhabitants, Apensen is the largest town in the parish district, and our church is located there. The congregation has a total of approximately 5,000 members, about half of whom live in Apensen. Over the course of a year, invitations are extended to over 80 church services and numerous devotional services, including in other villages such as Beckdorf, Wiegersen, Ottensen, and Ruschwedel.
