Summitof Saint-Loup

Highlight • Summit

Hike with a good elevation but direct and fairly short, we meet all types of hikers. Top little landscaped, watch out for the void on the cliff side. Huge parking lot at its foot (forecast crowds in high season)

The Ravin des Arcs

Highlight • Other

Fairly poorly indicated route, during our loop starting with the southern part we went too far... Intermediate level but be careful, I would say between medium and difficult. When you can cross the bed of the river, you have to cling to the trees to be able to go up or down. It's sporty for someone who is not used to it.
In winter, with the rains, it is often impossible to do the loop due to the water level. In summer it is totally dry, we walk in the bed of the river.
Parking not huge.

If there are in fact two sources in Grabels, the source of the Avy located on the left bank of the Mosson is the main one and offers a pleasant stroll.

Built in the Middle Ages, the Saint Etienne-d'Issensac bridge spans the Hérault near the former priory of the same name. Originally, it allowed the passage of pilgrims to Saint Guilhem, a stopover on the way to Saint Jacques de Compostela. It was built in the 14th century on the back of a donkey and has retained three of the five original arches. This stone bridge may have replaced an old wooden work of art. It is still in good condition today, but the numerous restorations it has undergone since the 17th century suggest that few medieval elements remain. Designed for the passage of pedestrians, carts and animals, it is poorly suited to car traffic, due to its narrowness. However, I happened to come across a car while passing it. Fortunately, there are angular reinforcements on the side to park and let pass, because the crossing between a car and a bicycle or a pedestrian is impossible.
The surface is cobblestone and a little chaotic. You will probably have to slow down and maybe even dismount.
Finally, it is a bathing place, fitted out in summer.

Tips from the Community

An exceptional site, but one that can quickly become dangerous if you're careless. The arch is a nice sight! Note that there's a hole in the middle that you can descend (by canyoning or caving), and then jump into the water (depending on the season), at the end of a rope, of course. The water is stagnant, not very enjoyable in the summer. The rest of the river is dry in the summer. It's a good opportunity to explore the caves, which are fairly easy to access, even if you reach the end of the line quite quickly.

We visited in the summer during a long drought, which made it possible to follow the route. This might be different if there's been a lot of rain or in winter. We had to climb quite a few sections, but there were some beautiful sights. Definitely recommended.

A very beautiful route, the only drawback being that it's extremely popular, being close to Montpellier. There are several variations ranging from 7 to 25 km.

Intermediate hike; it climbs well after crossing the river; then oak forest with the presence of wild boars; further on after crossing the main road it becomes easy with the view of Pic Saint Loup

Hike impossible to do by following the route. Fences, private property barriers. High water level. Impossible to cross the river without getting wet.

A beautiful place, but don't go there lightly, hiking shoes are a must! The hike that takes you there may be short, but it will be on rocky and uneven terrain.

Superb hike with very beautiful panoramas but indeed quite demanding because the path is very rocky in places and with some passages on the edge of cliffs. Hiking shoes necessary +++ I would also advise against going with young children. I agree with the previous comment on the first part because in fact the route takes us onto private property which is painful for the people who live there because we actually pass through their garden and then onto a private road.
