The Château de la Roche-Jagu was built at the beginning of the 15th century in the Trieux valley in Brittany. The construction probably took place between approximately 1405 and 1418. It was built for Catherine de Troguindy, a member of the Breton nobility. The location was chosen for its strategic position on a rocky outcrop. From there, the Trieux river and the traffic routes in the valley could be controlled. The complex served both as a residence and as a fortified manor house. During the Breton War of Succession, the region was contested multiple times. The complex also suffered damage. After the conflicts, the building was restored and partially rebuilt. The architecture remained strongly characterized by military functions. In the late Middle Ages, the castle developed into a representative noble residence. It thus reflects the transition from purely defensive architecture to residential use and the demonstration of noble power.
