Building History & Architecture Two Eras: The church building strikingly consists of two rectangular naves built next to each other. The oldest main nave dates back to the 13th century (Middle Ages), while the newer side nave was added in the 17th century. The Portal: The entrance area features a historic portal from the 13th century, adorned with ornate foliate capitals (chapiteaux feuillagés) and pointed arches. Interior: The main nave has a traditional, wooden barrel-vaulted ceiling. Among the most valuable art treasures inside is a colorful stone statue of the Madonna and Child (14th century). Special Features & Village History The Patron Saint: The church is dedicated to Saint Fiacrius (Saint-Fiacre). He is the patron saint of gardeners, which played a significant role in the historically agricultural Yonne Valley. It is the only church with this name in the entire surrounding region (the Jovinien). The Bell Tower Dispute: In 1866, there was great excitement in the village. Because Protestant villagers were building their own place of worship, the Catholic priest ensured that the Église Saint-Fiacre received a new, half-ton bell. Its deep sound was intended to dominate the entire valley and unmistakably demonstrate the Catholic presence.
