To think that soldiers took refuge behind the church and left a trace of themselves for our freedom 🕊️ by leaving us these graffiti. It is my duty of memory to create a must-see on this place full of history to honor them and to show them all my gratitude I went to the grave of one of them killed in Bouchoir on August 9, 1918 (Somme) a few months before the armistice. William David Boag 21 years old 🇨🇦 Never forget 💮. Come and contemplate this place. Thank you Franck.

On this hill (135m) which dominates the Scarpe valley, Saint Eloi founded an abbey in the 7th century. The army of Louis XI set up camp there in the 15th century during the siege of Arras, as did the Prince of Condé against Turenne two centuries later. The damaged abbey was rebuilt in the 18th century by Augustinians. But the revolution sold the walls as national property and during the world wars (particularly in 1915 and 1940) the building was almost completely destroyed. Only the two impressive towers (53m) remain.

After a nice 400 meters climb at 8% average (14% at the steepest point), discover the abbey of Mont Saint-Éloi. Founded by St. Vindicus, destroyed as a result of its sale as a national asset in 1793, housed a community of regular canons of the Rule of St. Augustine exercising an important literary activity.
