Exactly to the south is the Wechsel, further west the Schneeberg, Rax, Schneealpe, Obersberg, Gippl, Unterberg, Großer Zellerhut, Ötscher and then Reisalpe, Hochstaff and the Danube valley to the north.

The northeasternmost peak in the Alps, reaching over 1,000 meters. Here, the foresters leave nothing standing! Decades ago, the forest floor was still full of snowdrops, which fell victim to the harvester. Only on the Kienberg can one still find an exceptionally dense density of snowdrops. The Altenmarkt side is largely beech forest. On the far side, there is more pine forest with heather and serviceberry as undergrowth. Small purple gentians can be found on the summit meadow.
