We were very lucky that today is the International Day of Monuments. So this church was open and there were knowledgeable people explaining it. It dates from the 11th century, although there was a wooden chapel before. We were able to climb the tower and also the gallery. In the vault above the apse there is a keystone with the Jerusalem cross. Under the apse there is said to be a tomb, on which Jerusalem crosses are also visible. On the left side wall there is a fresco. This sgraffito from before 1700 depicts pilgrims to Santiago and the legend of the young man who is unjustly condemned for theft and saved from death on the gallows by St. James. This is another version of the same story as in Santo Domingo de la Calcada on the Camino Francés. The load-bearing pillar of the stairs to the gallery is made from an oak trunk into which the handrail has been carved. On the right side wall there is a wooden relief depicting Mary as a young girl being brought to the temple by her parents. The baptismal font is integrated into a load-bearing pillar of the church near the entrance. We were also able to climb the tower.

It's nice to rest under shady trees after the climb.

A guest establishment, presumably only for groups. The view is magnificent! When we passed by, there was a wedding party preparing for the wedding. We were allowed to use the WC. Unfortunately, we found no additional information about the house.

We were surprised by this pretty little town. The town hall has a very beautiful wedding hall. The church is beautifully renovated and contains several special features. A sgraffito from before 1700 showing pilgrims of St. James and also the legend of the young man who is unjustly convicted of theft and saved from death on the gallows by St. James. This is another variant of the same story from Santo Domingo de la Calcada on the Camino Francés.

This church, the burial place of the "Castelbajac" family until 1750, was originally a Romanesque chapel. It occupied the site of the current nave. Two small openings like loopholes may bear witness to a fortified church.
